“Empowering the Next Generation: GMA High School Honors Trailblazing Women Advocates.”

Celebrating Diversity and Inspiring Change: Key Arts Productions’ “Keepers of the Dream” Captivates at GMA

A recent presentation of the “Keepers of the Dream” multimedia program, focusing on the inspiring contributions of women civil rights advocates, received an overwhelmingly positive response from both students and educators at Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, a private, Roman Catholic, all-girls high school in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.

The theatrical assembly, combined live performance, visual technology, and engaging commentary, provides a powerhouse for learning because it turns abstract dates and names into a vivid, multi-sensory experience.

The performance not only educated the audience about the vital roles these remarkable women play but also fostered emotional connections that resonated deeply with those present. “It was very informative and inspiring…the best assembly I’ve seen in my four years at GMA,” an enthusiastic student explains. Students heard the stories of women who inspired Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as a young man, including Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, who advocated for women’s rights and the enslaved. Audience members listened to negro spirituals that Truth and Tubman sang to give courage to continue the fight for freedom. GMA staff and students also listened to and sang songs of inspiration and unity.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the program! The teachers, students, and staff members shared how much they appreciated the performance and look forward to Key Arts returning,” says Dr. Stephanie Felder, GMA’s diversity director. She brought the program to the school during its Black History Month celebration, giving the girls insight into the legacy of women like Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ruby Bridges, and Viola Liuzzo, who led the fight for civil rights in America, as well as selfless contemporary leaders like Alicia Garza, Tarana Burke, and others.
“It is truly uplifting to witness how the program can ignite passion and inspire the next generation to appreciate and celebrate the diverse tapestry of voices that have shaped our history,” Joe Patterson, producer of the program and president of Key Arts Productions, explains.
