Keepers of the Dream

Women were at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.  Coretta Scott King, Ella Baker, and Rosa Parks helped keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream alive and helped pave the way for equality.

Ruby Bridges’ silent protest inspired contemporary teenage activist Eva Lewis. Fannie Lou Hamer’s fight for voting rights motivated Tracey Abrams to carry the torch for justice.  An inspiring program highlights the stories of past and present female advocates for change.

“Every successful social movement in this country’s history has used disruption as a strategy to fight for social change..”
-Alicia Garza

Key Arts Productions presented “Keepers of the Dream,” a powerful show that honors the remarkable women who inspired and supported Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Grier School, an independent girls’ school in Tyrone, Pa.

Grier Dean of Students Erin Guydish Buchholz and Head of School Kara Lawler celebrate MLK and honor outstanding women during the Keepers of the Dream program.

The dynamic program highlighted the trailblazers who not only played crucial roles in the civil rights movement but continue to inspire future generations in their pursuit of equality and justice. Through images and rousing musical performances,  students celebrated the indomitable spirit of women who have shaped history and are dedicated to keeping Dr. King’s dream alive.
